Biography
Dr. Peter Reiss
Dr. Reiss is Deputy Director of the Dutch National AIDS Therapy Evaluation Center (NATEC), Scientific Advisor of International Antiviral Therapy Evaluation Center (IATEC), and Associate Professor of Medicine, Academic Medical Center at the University of Amsterdam.
After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Amsterdam, Dr. Reiss completed further post-graduate training in medicine, cardiology and infectious diseases at Harvard Medical School, Peter Bent Brigham and Children’s Hospital, Boston. He receives his certification in internal medicine in 1986. In 1987, Dr. Reiss was appointed staff member of the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine and AIDS, at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. From 1988 to 1990, in collaboration with the AIDS-Unit, he Human Retrovirus Laboratory of the Academic Medical Centre and the Amsterdam Municipal Health Service, Dr. Reiss conducted research into the antibody response to accessory gene products of HIV-1 in HIV-1 infected persons, receiving his PhD for this work in 1990. Following a fellowship in the Dept. of Infectious Diseases, Leiden University Hospital, The Netherlands, Dr. Reiss received is certification in infectious diseases.
Dr. Reiss is a member of the Dutch Society for Internal Medicine (NIV), Netherlands Society for Infectious Diseases, Netherlands Association of AIDS Treating Physicians, Dutch Society for Tropical Medicine, International AIDS Society and the International Society for Antiviral Research. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed publications and has served on numerous committees, working groups and trials programs for HIV/AIDS related research.
